What is the difference between J-type thermocouple and K-type thermocouple?

The main differences between J-type thermocouples and K-type thermocouples are in their material composition and measurement range. Here are the specific differences:

1. Material composition: J-type thermocouples consist of two wires made of iron and a constantan alloy (commonly JN2), while K-type thermocouples consist of wires made of chromium and nickel (commonly KP).

2. Temperature range: J-type thermocouples are suitable for accurate measurements in the range of -210°C to 1200°C, while K-type thermocouples are suitable for accurate measurements in the range of -270°C to 1372°C. Therefore, K-type thermocouples have a wider measurement range.

3. Linearity and sensitivity: Due to the different material compositions, J-type and K-type thermocouples also have slightly different linearity and sensitivity. J-type thermocouples have better linearity at low temperatures, while K-type thermocouples have better linearity at high temperatures.

4. Application fields: J-type thermocouples are widely used for measuring high temperatures in non-oxidizing inert atmospheres, such as in vacuum furnaces and molten salt baths. K-type thermocouples, on the other hand, are widely used for temperature measurement in general industrial applications and are suitable for general atmospheres and most liquids at normal temperatures.

The choice of thermocouple type should be based on specific measurement requirements and the environment.
