What is en 60335 iec 60335?

EN 60335 and IEC 60335 are international safety standards for household electrical appliances. These standards outline safety requirements to ensure that these appliances are safe for consumer use and reduce the risk of electric shocks, fires, and other hazards.

The standards were developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), an international organization that sets and promotes electrical and electronic standards. The European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) has also adopted these standards as EN (European Norm) standards within the European Union.

EN 60335 and IEC 60335 cover a wide range of household appliances, including but not limited to refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, toasters, electric kettles, hairdryers, and electric heaters. They specify requirements for electrical components, insulation, mechanical strength, temperature limits, marking, and instructions for use.

Manufacturers must comply with the standards when designing, manufacturing, and selling household appliances. Compliance with these standards is typically indicated by applying the CE marking, which shows that the product meets the essential requirements of EU legislation and can be legally sold within the European Economic Area.

These standards are regularly updated to address emerging safety concerns, advances in technology, and market trends. Compliance with EN 60335 and IEC 60335 ensures that household electrical appliances are safe for use in households and reduces the risk of accidents or injuries caused by faulty or unsafe products.

IEC 60335 is an international standard developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and sets out safety requirements for household electrical appliances on a global scale. It is recognized and applied in many countries around the world, including Europe.

EN 60335, on the other hand, is the European version of IEC 60335, developed and published by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC). EN 60335 adopts IEC 60335 as a European Norm (EN) and is specifically used within the European Union (EU).

While the technical content of both standards is largely the same, there may be slight variations between them based on regional or national requirements. EN 60335 incorporates any additional requirements or modifications specifically applicable to the European market. These modifications may address factors such as voltage, frequency, plugs and sockets, or specific national regulations.

In essence, IEC 60335 is the broader international standard applicable in various countries, while EN 60335 is the European version that harmonizes the requirements for the EU market, but still aligns with the global IEC standard.
